Creative Statement

My work is fundamentally concerned with the complex relationship of materials, society and its technologies. Trained first as a sculptor and builder, then as an interdisciplinary artist and designer, my work echoes the sometimes frenetic nature of this time with oblique, but active engagement.

As an artist, I create objects and environments intended to facilitate dialogue around a topic, idea, or a feeling. As a designer, I use many of the same tools to devise a solution -- whether physical or organizational -- to a stated challenge or problem. I am simultaneously intrigued by simple beauty, inherent complexity, and conceptual depth.

My work leans towards issues of communication, social justice, and the environment; my design leans toward simplicity, material awareness, and function. Somewhere in there is the hope of balance.
